Ofallon, IllinoisBRBRLieutenant Colonel Mickey D. Johns, a former resident of Borger, died April 21, 2008 in Ofallon,Illinois.

Memorial Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Fellowship Baptist Church with Bobby Bridges officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.BRBRMickey was born on December 17, 1950 in Borger. He graduated from West Texas State University in Canyon in May, 1973 with a Bachelors degree in biology. He received his commission from Officer Training School at Lackland AFB, TX in December, 1973.BRBRColonel Johns received his pilot wings at Reese AFB, Tx in May 1971. He was assigned to McChord AFB WA in the C-141A where he upgraded to aircraft commander qualification. Colonel Johns was an assistant flight commander, supervisor of T-38 academic training at Reese AFB. He was assigned to Dover AFB DE where he flew the C-5A, upgrading to instructor pilot. He was also chief of squadron safety executive officer for the Wing's deputy commander for operations. In 1985, he was assigned to Military Airlift Command's formal aircrew training school at Altus AFB, OK where he instructed students in the C-5A and C-5B. In August, 1988 he was assigned to Headquarters, Military Airlift Command, Directorate of Aircrew Training, Chief of C-5 Aircrew Training Programs; chief, Operational Suport Airlift Trainig; Chief Force Management Division, Assistant Director of Combat Operations Training. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on March 1, 1990.BRBRHe has a Masters degree in General Management and a Masters degree in Human Resources Development, both from Webster University in St. Louis, MO. His PME includes Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College National Security Management. His military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, 30LC; Air Force Commendation Medal; Combat Crew Readiness Medal, 20LC; and National Defense Service Medal.BRBRHe married the former Edith Smith of Borger.BRBRSurvivors include his wife Edith of O'Fallon, two daughters - Mandy Meadows husband Will of Euless, Tx., Holly Johns of the home, mother - Irene Johns of Borger, brother - Bob Johns of Amarillo, two sisters - Shela Skidmore of Borger, Shirley Jones of Amarillo
