Michael “Mike” Douglas Johnson was born on May 13, 1949, in Amarillo, Texas. He passed away on April 17, 2024, at Legacy Memory Care in Amarillo. His parents were Jack Jr. and Wilma (Womble) Johnson of Morse, Texas.
Mike attended school in Morse and Plemons. He graduated from Morse High School in 1967 in a graduating class of eight students. Mike was active in sports and academics while he was in school. He went to Texas Tech University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Ag Economics.
Mike always loved farming, so he came home after graduation to farm with his dad and brother, David. Mike and David were inseparable and enjoyed farming together. He loved every aspect of farming and only retired when his health no longer allowed him to be a part of the farm. Mike also enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and listening to gospel music. He was a member of the Gruver First Christian Church.
Mike married Carla Archer Gumfory in 1997 at the First Christian Church in Gruver, Texas. They loved to travel together and took many trips around the world.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Julie Gumfory, and his brother, David.
He is survived by his wife, Carla; his daughter, Dr. Kathryn Mancini and husband Brian of Borger; and his son, Garrett Gumfory and wife Mika, of Gruver. He was “GrandMike” to Sam, Gage, Mary and Charlie Gumfory, and Barrett Mancini. He is also survived by his sister, Kaye Griffis of Lubbock, one nephew, Brad, and four nieces: Alexis, Lisa, Amanda and Ashley; and his uncle, Charles Johnson, of Lubbock.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers at Legacy and Ruby Slippers for the care you provided for Mike.
