Monte Scott Geerdes, 68, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, passed from this life into Heaven October 6, 2022, due to complications of lymphoma and pneumonia.
He was born February 28, 1954, to Ronald Kerr and Dortha Lee Caldwell Geerdes. He was raised by a wonderful stepmother, Geraldine Geerdes, from age 3.
Monte attended Borger High School (Texas) then met his wife of 48 years while attending Bethany Nazarene College (now SNU) in 1973.
Monte’s career was in the oil patch with his last 35 years in pipeline operations with Santa Fe Pacific in California and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Service Company,
Monte had a very real relationship with his Savior, Jesus Christ, and deeply desired to share God’s love with others.
He found time amid a busy career to travel for ministries in China and Seed of Hope in South Africa. Since high school he has attended the Church of the Nazarene and more recently Life Church where he served youth through hospitality.
Monte was described as a prince-of-a-man by his late father-in-love, Merlin Hunter. He loved people and loved visiting with them, and it seems that everyone loved Monte. He enjoyed outdoor activities like fishing, hunting, dirt-bike, and snow machine riding, working in the yard and watching and listening to birds.
Monte is preceded in death by his father, mother, stepmother and brothers, Ronnie Bert and Michael, and sister Jane Fisher and stepsisters, Sharon Mittelstet and Genevieve Geerdes. He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Hunter) Geerdes, son Benjamin and his wife Isabel, and son Zachary and his wife Angela and her 4 children and 2 grandchildren. He is also survived by brother David and a number of nieces and nephews.
