Monte Lee Leggett, 61, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018.
Funeral services will be held 2 pm on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Grace Church with Pastor Marshall Ford officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home in Fritch. In lieu of flowers his memory may be honored with a gift to Grace Church, 401 Gardner Street, Borger, Texas 79007.
Monte was born September 14, 1956 in Memphis, Texas. He loved the Lord with all his heart and served at Grace Church in Borger. Monte enjoyed riding his motorcycle, carpentry and remodeling work and going to his cabin in Angel Fire. Nothing brought more joy to his life than his family and grandkids.
He had a passion for police work. His career began at the Randall County Sheriff Department from 77/78. He then proudly joined the United States Army serving his country for 6 years in the Criminal Investigation Division in Fort Carson, Colorado where he received a Medal of Commendation for helping rescue numerous hostages. In 1981 he opened Leggett Investigations in Amarillo and then added Leggett Trailer Sales to his operation in 2004. He then became the Chief of Police in Fritch where he served for 5 years until his retirement. Realizing retirement wasn't for him, he took a position in Texline to serve as their Chief of Police in March 2018.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and beloved dog, Max.
Survivors include his wife, Darla of Fritch; sons, Terry Leggett and fiancé Kelli of Georgetown, Ryan Tucker and wife Amber of Amarillo, Buddy Leggett and wife Analee of Fritch; daughters, Dacia Valentine and husband Chanse of Fritch, Amy Leggett of Fritch; sixteen grandchildren; one great granddaughter and one great grandson on the way; and his beloved canine companion, Sugar.
