Murillo Gilley

Helen Murillo Gilbreath Davis Gilley, was born November 4, 1917 in Quitman, Wood County, Texas and passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017.

Born to George N. Gilbreath and Jeanetta Galloway Gilbreath. Murillo was the 8th child of 10, (5 brothers and 4 sisters). She was married to her first love, Richard Clay (RC) Davis, April 19, 1941 until his death March 9, 1979. She was married to her second love, Edward M. Gilley, February 24, 1987 until his death February 15, 2001. She lived in Amarillo, Texas 60 years, from 1941 until 2001, moved to Panhandle, April 2001 until 2014, and moved to Dallas, September 2014. Murillo worked for Pantex during WW II, building 500 lb bombs, but probably enjoyed her 30 plus years that she worked for Gunn Brothers in Amarillo the most. The majority of those years she worked as a book keeper at the Shamrock station on Grand and Amarillo Boulevard.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father; four brothers; four sisters; husbands, RC and Ed; daughter, Alice Crawford and her husband, Tommy Crawford; grandchildren, Donna Gaines, Shad Gilley, Tonya Gilley and Great-great grandchildren, Richard "Bobo" Davis.

She is survived by her baby brother, Richard (Bill) Gilbreath and his wife, Betty; step-children, Glenna Wright, Gary Gilley and his wife, Lunell, Renee Beck and her husband, Gary; grandchildren, Marie Allen and her husband, Jerry, Donald Crawford and his wife, Christine, Richard "Lynn" Crawford and his wife, Gale, Johnny Crawford and his wife, Tara, Glenea Martinez and her husband, Rafael, Greg Howell and his wife, Teri, Glen Howell and his wife, Anita, Geno Wright, Gary Gilley Jr. and his wife, Kerri, Laurie Barnett and her husband, Scott, Marcie Thompson and her husband, Derek; thirty-three great-grandchildren; twenty great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild (on the way); and her life-long friend and "sister", Polly Avent. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held at 12 noon on Monday, February 20, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Panhandle with Pastor Josh Light officiating.

Murillo will lie in state in the Panhandle Funeral Home Friday 4pm to 8 pm, Saturday from 9 am - 8 pm and Sunday from noon to 8 pm.
