Norma P. O'Neal, 92 formerly of Panhandle passed away at her home in Amarillo on Friday, January 20, 2017.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January, 24, 2017 at the Panhandle Cemetery, with a Celebration of Life following at 11:00 a.m. at The River Church with Rev. Lynn Howe of the Laramie Valley Chapel Church in Laramie, Wyoming officiating. A visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2017 at the O'Neal Farm. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.
Norma Purvines O'Neal was born October 29, 1924 in Panhandle to Opal (Weatherly) and Merwin Purvines. She graduated from Borger High School and attended TCU and WT. Norma married Harold Vernon O'Neal May 26, 1946 in Panhandle, and was a member of the First Christian Church of Panhandle where she served on the church board for many years. Norma was very active in the Carson County 4-H Club and the Carson County Stock Show. She also loved to dance and play golf. Norma was President of the Texas Sr. Women's Golf Association, and a board member of the National Sr. Women's Golf Association.
Norma was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. A true caregiver at heart. She was also a fantastic cook, and hostess. She could whip up a meal for 50 or more in the blink of the eye. The more the merrier.
Survivors include three daughters Sharon Loerwald and husband Jeff, Mary Mjolhus, both of Amarillo, Patrice Shadid and husband Jay of Panhandle, daughter in law Susan O'Neal of Amarillo, 12 grandchildren Chad O'Neal, Liz O'Neal, Josh Loerwald, Maggie Vaughn, Abby Allen, Toni Battle, Carrie Len Smith, Brady Shadid, Corby Shadid, Venke Bertrand, Tahle Cox, Aubre LeFever, and 23 great grandchildren.
Norma is preceded in death by her husband Harold March, 16, 1997, a son Shawn O'Neal June, 3, 2005, and a daughter in law Deborah Ann O'Neal.
