Odis Haskell McClellan, Jr., 71, died peacefully at his home on Independence Day, 2019. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 10 at Westlawn Memorial Park and the Celebration of His Life will follow at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Graced Land East Activity Center with Pastor Ricky Griffin, Trinity Fellowship Church in Amarillo officiating. The family requests that friends meet from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday July 9,at the funeral home for visitation. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Odis was born June 16, 1948 in Borger to Odis Haskell McClellan, Sr. and Dorothy Louise Richeson McClellan. He grew up in Fritch and graduated Sanford-Fritch High School in 1966. He was enrolled in college at West Texas State University when he left to join the most exclusive fraternity in the world, The UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS. Odis completed Boot Camp and earned his EGA "Eagle Globe & Anchor" at San Diego MCRD. He served in Vietnam in the 4th Battalion 12th Marine Regiment 3rd Marine Division. He earned a National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Rifle Marksman Badge and RVN Cross of Gallantry with Palm. His additional MOS was M 109 SpHow Cannoneer, Instructor Military Science, Rifle Marksmanship Instructor at Camp Pendleton, CA. Upon discharge from the USMC he went to work for Phillips Petroleum Co at the Plains Plant in December 1970. He married Jodi Luman June 1, 1971 in Borger, TX. While at the Plains Plant, Odis worked his way up from the gang to a Certified Instrument Man and Electrician. He was recommended by the Plant Manager, Warren Acker, that he be transferred to the Engineering Department at the Phillips Refinery. In March 1976 he resigned that position to start his own businesses in Fritch and Borger with Radio Shack and Lafayette Electronics. That business moved on into communications and mobile phones for oilfield and many local area businesses and farms using the 400 ft. towers he had constructed west of town, in Allenreed and around the Dumas area. From that experience he moved on into the oil and natural gas business along with several business real estate properties. He was instrumental in the new Borger Hospital acquiring land as he donated most of on which it now sits. Odis served on the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents and on the Borger City Council. He is a member of the Borger Elks and an honorary member of the Elks Honor Guard. He also received the 2012-2013 Elks Citizen of the Year award. On Armed Forces Day in May 2017, for his help and support in honoring Veterans, Law Enforcement and First Responders he was awarded the Great American Patriot Award. Odis was the owner of RayMac Energy and OHM Operating in Borger. Along with his many other accomplishments, he was a Philanthropist supporting many causes locally and nationally. Odis was also an accomplished musician. His band Odie and the Dawgs, with Odis on lead guitar was well known for good music and fun times. One of the highlights for the band was playing at Gilley's Club in Dallas.
Odis was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jeremy, brother Ronald, sisters Lajuan Stegall and Pat Barger.
He Is survived by his bride, Jodi, his two sons Jamey McClellan and his wife Jami of Borger and SSgt Andrew McClellan of Camp Lejeune, NC, his mother-in-law dearest Joyce Luman of the home, his three granddaughters Lexi, Mattie and Emme and his sister Sharee Thieleman of Cape Coral, FL, his brother-in-law Buzz Luman and his wife Lily of Albuquerque, NM, his sisters-in-law Terri Caldwell and her husband Terry of Borger and Lori Stine and husband Scott of McKinney, TX and several nieces and nephews, Jerry Price of Borger, SGM John Meadows, U.S. Army (Ret) of Kingsland, GA, Reggie Germain of Cape Coral, FL and Ronnie McClellan, Jr. of California.
