Olan Ray O.R. Brown, 86, beloved husband, father, papa and great grandpa went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday January 23, 2013 in Borger. Celebration of life service will be Saturday, January 26, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairlanes Baptist Church with Paul Burwash, Pastor and Bobby Bridges officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
O. R. was a faithful member of Fairlanes Baptist Church and a man after Gods own heart. He had a love of life and family. He never met a stranger and continually told those close to him, never forget how much I love you. His service will be a celebration of his life and shared memories of family and friends.
He came to Borger in the early 1950s and married Vergie Franks July 29, 1955 in Borger. He was a retired craftsman for Phillips Petroleum Co. where he worked 30 years. O. R. was proud of his service to his country, he enlisted at age 17 in the Navy during WWII and was first stationed in the Pacific on the Battleship USS Mississippi BB41 as a Gun Turret Loader. He transferred to Tinian where he loaded B29s with fuel and bombs. Before the war ended, he served on Saipan as a Bow Boy on a Crash Boat helping to rescue downed B29 pilots and planes. They cleared the water runway for seaplanes and transported personnel to and from hospital ships docked in Saipan Harbor. He was awarded the Victory Medal, the AsiaticPacific Campaign Medal and the American Campaign Medal.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Andrew and Ellen Brown, his mother Maggie Lee Caldwell, his stepfather Ross Caldwell and his two brothers Franklin and Bill Brown.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Vergie, his two daughters Carolyn Weston and her husband Dick of Azle, Texas and Kim Allison and her husband James of The Woodlands, Texas, his son David Brown and his wife Amy of Amarillo, his six grandchildren Josh Weston, Cayce Weston Feemster, Klein Allison, Andrew Lucas Allison, Claire Allison and Madalynn Brown, his great granddaughter Weslee Feemster and great grandson John Weston Feemster, two more great grandsons Weston and Feemster both expected in June.
Casket bearers will be Ross Lee Brown, Randy Franks, Josh Weston, Stephen Lund, John Lund, Klein Allison, Lucas Allison and Audie Hatton. Honorary bearers are members of the Faith Sunday School Class of Fairlanes Baptist Church, Dene Meyer and Bobby Bridges
