PanhandleBRBROpal Josephine Shepherd Eagle, 91, died Friday, June 12, 2009 in Borger.BRBRServices will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 17th, at the First United Methodist Church of Panhandle with Jake Minton, officiating. Interment will be in Panhandle Cemetery.BRBROpal was the fifth of seven children born to Leslie Calvin and Alice Gertrude Creel Shepherd. She was born in Carson County, TX on March 15, 1918 and graduated from Panhandle High School in 1936. She married Marlin Eagle on October 17, 1936.BRBRThey lived in Panhandle until 1951 then moved to a farm 3 miles northwest of Panhandle. In 1955, they moved to the old Eagle farm located about 12 miles northwest of Panhandle, farming there until 1982, when they retired and moved to Panhandle.BRBROpal was a loving wife of 69 years, a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Panhandle. She enjoyed having family in her home for meals, sewing, arts and crafts, making quilts, bowling and she loved to play card games. BRBRShe was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Gertrude Shepherd, her husband, Marlin Eagle, two brothers, Ray Clarence Shepherd and three sisters, Callie Shepherd, Hester Held and Allene Lewis.BRBROpal is survived by her son- Kent and his wife Shirley of Fritch, daughter- Marlene Gray and her husband Billy Don of Borger, sister - Wanda Armstrong of Wichita, KS, five grandchildren - Kay Lynn Clifford and husband Chris of Rio Rancho, NM, Deborah June Petersen and husband Eric of Pueblo, Co., Kent Dwayne Gray and wife Kristi of Borger, Kathy Diane Whittenberg and husband Kyle of Rio Rancho, NM and Randy Scott Gray and wife Nina of Borger; twelve great-grandchildren - Marlee Taylor Clifford, Megan Luke Petersen, Chelsea, Morgan, Blake Zoe Gray, Seth Tanner Whittenberg, and Hunter Brant Gray.BRBROpal was proud to claim as her own the children of Shirley Wasson Eagle, Kim Huot and husband John of Borger, their son Dain Lee and his daughter, Haven of Stinnett, Jamey Wasson and wife Leslie of Midland and their children Brooke and Lance, Shelly Biggs and husband Rusty of Lubbock and their daughter Rachel and Charley Wasson of Lubbock.BRBRThe family will receive friends in celebration of her life at MintonChatwell Funeral Home in Panhandle from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16th.BR

Casket bearers will be Chris Clifford, Eric Petersen, Kent Gray, Kyle Whittenberg, Randy Gray and Charley Wasson, Taylor Clifford, Seth Whittenburg and Hunter Gray.
