Opal Herndon

Funeral services are scheduled at 3:00 pm Friday, September 29th for Opal Calliham Herndon at First United Methodist Church in Panhandle, Texas. A lifelong resident of Carson County, Opal was born August 23rd,1926, the sixth of seven children born to Ray and Ida Calliham in Conway, Texas. Opal attended grade school in Conway and graduated Valedictorian from Panhandle High School in 1944. She married C.W. (Gabe) Herndon on October 6, 1946, at the Conway Community Church. She was longtime member of the First Christian Church of Panhandle where she served as the organist for forty years. She was most recently a member of the Trinity Church of Panhandle. She will be remembered as an example of Christian faith and selfless service. She was proceeded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters and her husband. She is survived by her son Hal and wife, Benetta, of Panhandle, TX, her daughter Lynelle Mackechnie and husband, Tom, of Grady, NM and daughter Lisa Klett and husband, Wes, of College Station, TX along with her younger brother, Max Calliham of Lake Quivira, KS. Also, she was blessed with three grandchildren, Adam Klett and wife Erin, Jason Klett, and Shelby Klett and one great granddaughter, Abigail Klett.
The family requests memorials be sent to the Conway Community Church in care of the Square House Museum, Box 276, Panhandle, Texas.
