Opal Aline Shelton, 86, died Wednesday, May 9th, 2007, in Amarillo, Texas. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at New Beginnings Church with Bro. Don White, Pastor officiating. Interment will be in The Garden of Love at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Shelton was born on April 20, 1921, in Honey Grove, Texas and she had been a Borger resident since 1946. She was a homemaker and member of New Beginnings Church. She married William Delmar Shelton on July 23, 1938, in Honey Grove, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1999, and she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy R. Burks in 1992, and four brothers.
Mama Shelton, as she was known, was a talented song writer and wrote many poems. She loved to pick her guitar and sing. One of our favorites was Goldie Locks among many. She wrote many songs using Bible history as her theme. She will be missed by her loving family and her cherished church family. She was a strong Christian and loved her Lord with all her heart. One of her last words was Jesus. Her survivors include four sons - Billy R. Linda Shelton of Fritch, Joe W. Sue Shelton, Lemuel Gina Shelton of Borger, and Sammy S. Carolyn Shelton of Fritch, brother - Louie Page of Paris, Tx., three sisters - Annie Lee Sutton of Bonham, Tx., Beatrice Hicks of Honey Grove, Tx., Mary Newland of Amarillo, twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Casket bearers will be Del Shelton, David Shelton, Shane Shelton, Kenny Burks, Shawn Francis and Michael Broom. Honorary bearers will be Stetson Tracy and the men of New Beginnings Church.
Memorials may be made to the New Beginnigs Building Fund, 1 Amaryllis, Borger 79007.
