Peggy Butler, 84, of Coppell, Texas, died Sunday, September 14, 2014.
Graveside services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, at Panhandle Cemetery with Keith Wiseman, former Pastor of First United Methodist Church of Panhandle and Jerry Lane, Pastor of First United Methodist Church in White Deer, officiating. Viewing will be 9:00 AM 8:00 PM Friday at the Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. Her memory may be honored with a gift to St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
Peggy was born October 13, 1929, in Stone County, Missouri. She was a 1948 graduate of Crane High School, Crane Missouri, where she was involved in drama and choir, was basketball queen and graduated salutatorian. Following graduation, Peggy worked in banks in Crane and Compton, California. On November 4, 1951, she married her sweetheart, Clyde Keifer Butler, in Yuma, Arizona. They were married 34 years, raising their two daughters, Paula and Teresa, in the Texas Panhandle.
Peggy lived and worked in Panhandle for over 35 years. She was elected Carson County Treasurer and served in that capacity for 34 years. The people of the county remember her warm smile and open door at the top of the south stairwell in Carson County Courthouse. She also was involved in various ministries in First United Methodist Church of Panhandle as board treasurer, choir member, and childrens Sunday School teacher.
Peggy was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma Pauline King Metcalf her father, Thomas Glen Metcalf and her stepmother, Inez Metcalf. Her husband, Keifer Butler, preceded her in death on April 8, 1985.
Survivors include her daughter, Paula Butler Roberts daughter, Teresa Butler Tate and husband, Jimmy Tate all of Coppell three brothers, Bob Metcalf and wife, Maxie Faye, of Crane, Mo., Wayne Metcalf and wife, Mary, of Baxter Springs, Ks., and Bill Metcalf and wife, Janice, of Crane, Mo. and sisterinlaw, Barbara Butler of Eastland. She is also survived by the highlight of her life, her one grandson, Paul Alexander Tate, of San Marcos, Tx. She will be missed by her numerous nieces and nephews, greatnieces and nephews.
