Percy Don Farmer, 92, of Borger, Texas died on February 16, 2020.
Born October 26, 1927 in Canadian, Texas to Percy and Bernice Farmer, Don grew up in Wheeler where he graduated high school. He then chose to attend West Texas State University where he ran track and graduated with a degree in Accounting. After graduation he briefly taught high school and was also the girls basketball coach. After 2 years he left teaching and went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company where he spent the rest of his working career. With Phillips he was able to travel abroad to such places as Australia, Copenhagen, London, and a few more stops in between. He retired in 1986 after 38 years with Phillips.
Don enjoyed fishing, bowling, and was an avid golfer. When he wasn’t on the golf course playing his favorite sport, he was on his favorite lake, Lake Ouachita, fishing. Most called him by his middle name Don, but those who truly knew him called him PD.
He married the love of his life Hazel Gollen Reames on October 12, 1947. They enjoyed 57 years together until Hazel’s passing on November 11, 2004.
Don is survived by his four children, Margaret Helen Roy and husband Ron, of Eufaula, OK; Marilyn Jan Petsche and husband Dennis, of Stockbridge, GA; Donna Marlene Leddy and husband Spencer, of Ada, OK; and Travis Lloyd Farmer and wife Cyndi, of Spring, TX; 11 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020 5-7 pm at Minton-Chatwell Funeral Home in Borger, Texas. Per Don’s wishes the funeral will be graveside services only at Wheeler Cemetery on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, his memory may be honored with a gift to the Alzheimer’s Association in Don’s name, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
