Pete Francis, 90 of Panhandle died Friday September 2nd in Amarillo. Rosary will be read at 6:00 pm Monday at St Theresa Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be 10:00 am Tuesday at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.
Pete was born February 28, 1926 to Peter John and Rose Lena Simonizh Kuehler in Groom. He was the oldest of four children.
In his younger days, Pete loved to go to cattle auctions. He was a farmer at heart, but did many other things in his life. He worked for 42 years at Pantex Mason & Hanger - Silas Mason. His many jobs at Pantex included transportation, boilermaker, welding shop, and maintenance where he was a jack of all trades. He was a Craft II supervisor when he retired.
Pete also had his own welding shop, Pete's Welding. He made everything from squeeze chutes to feeders, bumpers, grill guards, sun fighters, tool boxes, and medal signs for farmers, ranchers, and businessmen in and around Panhandle. H.J. (Friday) Hughes said, "If I can't get you (Pete) to do it, I don't want anybody to do it."
Peter worked at Vivra Whirl welding part time. It was not unusual for him to work mornings at Vivra Whirl before working the swing shift at Pantex.
After Pete retired on December 31, 1992 he loved to putter around in his metal shop. He could make anything from a sheet of metal. He gave many of his sculptures and creations away.
Pete is preceded in death by Emma his wife of 63 years, his parents, and his sister Bernice Kuehler Ruthowski.
Pete is survived by two sisters, Madeline Labus of Amarillo and Genevieve Kuehler of Claude ; three children, sons Douglas of Panhandle and Steve and wife Margaret of Sand Springs, OK; daughter Joyce Kuehler Pinkham and husband John of Amarillo; four grandchildren Christy Pinkham Drumm and husband Matthew of Cedar Hill,TX, Amy Pinkham Sasson and husband Noah of Dallas, Daniel Kuehler and wife Kim of Sand Springs, OK, and Mary Kuehler of Tulsa; five great grandchildren Josiah, Gideon, and Abigail Drumm and Abraham and Eliza Sasson
