Phyllis was born in Clovis, New Mexico on October 16, 1946, to Lee and Polly (Brooks) VanSant.  She had lived in Borger since 1959.

She married Wayne Powell in Clayton, New Mexico and their love lasted for over 60 years.  She lovingly called him Pa and in return, he called her Ma.  Phyllis was a homemaker and devoted her life to her family.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren affectionately referred to her as Granny and Pooh.  She loved to play dominoes, pinochle, Phase 10, Yahtzee and collect coupons to send to her family and friends.  Every holiday, all her family and friends could expect a card in the mail with either a shiny gold dollar coin or a dollar bill inside.  Birthdays were special and the card you received always had a little more spending money. She was always there when you needed her and was the sweetest lady you ever met.  She was the rock of the family and will be extremely missed.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Polly VanSant, and a nephew, Rusty Todd VanSant.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Wayne Powell of the home; daughter, Paulette McCarter of Quinlan, Texas; sons, Dan Powell and Rick Powell of Borger, and Bill Powell of Houston; a brother, Michael VanSant of Sherman, Texas; two sisters, Candy VanSant and Sheila Shea and husband, Tommy all of Sherman, Texas; sister-in-law, Dorothy Prater and husband Ed of San Antonio; brother-in-law, Jim Powell and wife, Velma of Amarillo; granddaughters, Kristi Baggett and husband Jared of Paris, Texas and Amber Chance and husband, David of Newark, Texas; two grandsons, Kody Blythe and wife, Erica of Quinlan, Texas and Erik Powell of Florida; six great-grandchildren, Shai Morris and husband, Slade of Gilmer, Texas, Drew Harris, also of Gilmer, Gavin Baggett of Paris, Texas, Hannah Blythe, Raylan Blythe and Adaline Blythe, all of Quinlan, Texas; nieces, Marie Benner and Masen VanSant; nephews, Terry Prater and wife, Lisa, Mike Prater and wife, Tracy, Edward Powell, Tristen VanSant, Tyler VanSant and Trevor VanSant; and numerous cousins.
