R. D. Cornelison, 86, died October 4, 2018 in Amarillo. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Fairlanes Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Burwash, Pastor and Rev. Brad Jones, his grandson, of Passion City Church in Atlanta, Georgia officiating. Military graveside rites will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Friends are invited to join the family at a visitation at the funeral home Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
R. D. was born January 25, 1932 in Lebanon, OK to Theodore Cornelison and Ova J. Ray Cornelison, he proudly served his country as a corporal in the U. S. Army, While in the service he was stationed in Austria and was a member of the base football and basketball teams. He came to Borger in 1951 and was a Transportation Supervisor for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 41 years. He married Ella Mae Rainbolt October 18, 1952 in Ardmore, OK. R. D. was a Hutchinson County Commissioner for 16 years and was very civic minded. He was very active in Youth Sports, 4H clubs, the Annual Livestock Show and the Rotary Club.
He loved farming, cowboying, driving trucks and playing all sports but especially tennis and played well after he was 70.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ray, his two sisters Estelle Mozingo and Wilma Vinson.
R. D. is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ella, his son Rick Cornelison and his wife Pam of Clovis, NM, his two daughters Janis Carder of Canyon and Lisa Kennedy and her husband Ron of Bartlesville, OK, his five grandchildren; Missy Schrib and her husband Lanny, Brad Jones and his wife Brittany, KayCee Perry and her husband Sawyer, Braden Kennedy and Rosston Kennedy, his seven great grandchildren Ben, Lindley and Brandt Schrib, Raygen and Saydee Perry and Caleb and Adelynn Jones.
Casket bearers will be Roy Gurley, Larry Coffman, Danny Lavato, John Fisher, Theron Baker and Duane Chisholm.
Honorary bearers will be Jack Worsham, Ed Hicks, Eddie Whittington, Jerry Hefner, Red Isbell, Gordon Gillham, Charlie Kerr and Lindsay Patterson.
