Rainey Sherrill Cox, 89, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018. Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday November 21, at the New Life Church with Rev. Conny Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors. There will be a visitation for the family on Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Rainey was born on March 17, 1929 in Snyder, Texas to Walter and Rubye Gideon Cox. He graduated from Phillips High School in 1947. Rainey proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. He married Linda Barbour Davis on August 25, 1965 in Panhandle. He loved playing golf, was a member of the Sheriff Department Auxiliary and was a member of the New Life Church.
Rainey was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Theo, and grandson Matthew Poole.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda; son, Steven Cox and wife, Mandy of Amarillo; daughters, Tania Poole of Borger, Denise Carter and husband, Mark of Baytown, Texas, and Cheryl Gries and husband, John of Haslet, Texas; grandchildren, Rachel, Lindsey, Jeff, Michael, Mitchell, and Jaxson. Rainey was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren with one on the way.
