Ralph Shemwell

Ralph Douglas Shemwell, 58, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

A celebration of his life will be held 10 am Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Panther Stadium in Panhandle, Texas. Should there be inclement weather, services will be held at The River in Panhandle.  In lieu of flowers his memory may be honored with a gift to the Ralph Douglas Shemwell Scholarship Fund at Happy State Bank.

Ralph was born March 5, 1963 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky to Thomas Douglas Shemwell and Virginia Lee Walls Shemwell.  He married the love of his life, MeLinda Held, on June 9, 1984 in Panhandle.  Coach Shemwell had the privilege to teach and coach in Groom, White Deer and Highland Park.   He loved sports and all it encompassed watching, playing or coaching.  Ralph was a talented Mr. Fix It and enjoyed wood working.  Nothing brought more joy to his life than his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Virginia Shemwell; and sister, Melanie Hicks.

Survivors include his wife, MeLinda of Panhandle; son, Ryan Shemwell and wife Shelby of Fort Stewart, Georgia; daughter, Hanna Williams and husband Westin of Panhandle; mother and father-in-law, Donna and Les Held of Panhandle; brother-in-law, Brian Hicks of Panhandle; nieces, Casey Hicks-Steward and husband Brandon of Amarillo, Andie Hicks-Stewart and husband Hunter of Killeen; great niece, Wrenley Virginia Steward of Amarillo; and his "kids" that he has coached over the years.
