Randall “Pete” Burks, 81, of Fritch passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022, in Amarillo. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, April 25, 2022, at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors.
Randall was born August 23, 1940, in Centralia, IL, to Grover Pete and Johnnie Mae {Tullous) Burks. He graduated from Phillips High School, lived in Phillips and Fritch most of his life. He worked as a cowboy on the 6666 Ranch outside Borger and in Gutherie, and worked on the Arrington Ranch near Canadian, TX. He served in the U. S. Army from 1965 to 1967 and had the rank of SP5 E-5. He was a member of the 87th Engineer Battalion. After completing basic training at Ft. Polk, LA he went on to serve at Ft. Carson, CO. He also served in Vietnam-Saigon, Phan Rang, Nha Trang and Camrohn Bay. After leaving the service, he worked for J. M. Huber Carbon Co. He started and ran his own business, Burks/Sargent for several years. He went to work as a correction officer for the State of Texas where he retired in 2002.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his first wife, Peggy; three sisters Mary Jane Kaps, Linda Hefner and Pat Fisher; brother Robert “Bob” Burks.
Surviving are his wife Deanna of Fritch; son Kenny and wife Kim Burks of Fritch; daughter Kylea Broom of Amarillo; grandchildren Leann Morgan, Christian Morgan, and Emily Morgan; great grandchildren Kinsley Morgan and Rosalina Garcia Mares; and sister Juanita Moulton of Las Vegas, NV.
