Refugio Cuca Rodriguez, 78, of Panhandle, died Friday, October 19, 2012, In Panhandle.
A Rosary will be said at 6:00 p. m. Monday, October 22, 2012 at the St. Theresas Catholic Church, and Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, also at the Church with Father Mieczyslaw Przepiora officiating. Interment will follow at the Panhandle Cemetery, under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.
Refugio was born July 5, 1934 in El Mortero Suchil Durango, Mexico to Severiano and Maria Martinez Juanez. She married Jose Rodriguez in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, and has lived in Panhandle since 1964. Refugio was a cook at St. Anns Nursing Home for 27 years, and a member of St. Theresas Catholic Church in Panhandle. She loved to cook, sew, play with the grandkids, her puppy Shadow, and indoor plants. Refugio could bring any plant back to life. She nursed all of her childrens plants, and then kept them so they would continue to live. Refugio never, missed a day of work. When it snowed, Jose would take her to work in the tractor.
Survivors include her husband Jose, three daugthers Anna Hernandez and husband Hector of Canyon, Bertha Rodriguez and husband Roberto of Panhandle, Sonia Walker and husband Danny of Amarillo two sons Ricardo Rodriguez and wife Nelissa of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Martin Rodriguez of Panhandle two brother, Felix and Juan Juanez, and a sister, Petra Juanez, all of Mexico, 16 grandchildren, and 10 greatgrandchildren.
Refugio is preceded in death by her parents.
