Richard M. Hale, 78, died March 7, 2018 at his home in Borger. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the 1st Baptist Church Chapel with Pastor Ricky Griffin, Trinity Fellowship Church officiating. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Fairview Cemetery in Memphis under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Richard was born April 20, 1939 in Phillips to Samuel Douglas Hale and Alma Charlotte Richerson Hale. He married Teresa Jackson May 23, 1957 in Memphis, they have lived in Borger since 1984. He was the son of a Major League baseball player and became a golf professional over fifty years ago. He was a class A Life Member of the Professional Golf Association starting in 1966. He won the Player of the Year award in the West Texas Chapter, averaging 69.2 in 14 Pro-Am events on different courses. His best score was 59, he has had 5 double eagles and a hole in one on number 15 at Borger Country Club. He loved to hunt and fish as well as playing golf and was well known for growing tomatoes and having a beautiful yard. Richard was well known for his teaching abilities as Pro at Borger Country Club Golf Course.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Nesa Jan Nixon, his grandson Jared Samuel Trengove, two brothers and two sisters.
Richard is survived by his wife of sixty years Teresa, his two daughters Mitzi Carol Nixon and her husband Daniel of Floydada and Melissa Trengove and her husband Steve of Lubbock, his four grandchildren Scott Nixon and his wife Leslie, Laci Nixon, Jennifer Trengove and Jacqueline Whisner and his five great-grandchildren Camden, Keegan, Jaylee, Levi and Lauren Jaed.
The family requested memorials be made to the Opportunities Inc/Senior Citizens Center, P. O. Box 5032, Borger, TX 79008.
