Robert Bob Lee Daves, 88, died February 28, 2012 at Claude, TX.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Claude, TX with Rev. Dick Gravley officiating. Burial will be in the Claude Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.
Mr. Daves began his life in a cotton patch in Quail,TX on Dec. 17, 1927. He spent his youth and teens on a farm in Conway, AR. He joined the Navy, in November of 1945, as a Bosn Mate. He was aboard the USS Burleson during Operation Crossroad, the first post war above ground Nuclear Testing on Bikini Island.
He met his wife, Mae Eades, while he was working on the railroad. She was picking up coal that had fallen off the train. They married on December 23, 1946. He held several jobs in the following years, including Oil Field Work, Carbon Black Plant at Pampa and finally for the State of Texas with the Highway Department. He retired in 1998. He also had his own lawn mowing business in Claude. He did not stay retired long and soon began driving a semi for Ed until 2007.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, wife Mae Daves, his son Daryl, and brothers Eddie and Eules.
He is survived by one son, David and his wife Brenda of Panhandle, two granddaughters Sabrina Daves of Stephenville, TX and Brittney Daves of Canyon, TX. , brothers Tom Daves, Little Rock, AR, Jerry Daves, Greenbrier, AK., sisters, Flo Betner, Conway, AR, Evelyn Finch, Little Rock, AR, Jean Leslie, Rose Hill, KS, Patricia Chamblee, Valonia, AR, Monica Bush, Mountain Home, AR, Marie Vaughn, Clarksville, AR.
