R. E. Bob Ringo, 83, a longtime resident of Hutchinson County, died August 9, 2010 in Amarillo.
Services will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the Church of God in Borger wit. Dr. Anita Brown, officiating, assisted by Pastor Bill Ratchford. Interment will be in The Garden of Devotion at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mr. Ringo was born on March 9, 1927 in Horton, Kansas to Luther Grace Ringo and moved to Texas with his family in 1936. He married Mary Ellen Campbell on August 10, 1944 in Borger.
Mr. Ringo served in the military first in the U.S. Maritime Service and then in the U.S. Army Air Force. He served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II.
Mr. Ringo was a member of the Church of God and served faithfully in several positions. In 1986 he was chosen as Layman of the Year for the Church of God in the State of Texas. Also, in 1990 he was chosen Psalmist of the Year. He spent 10 years traveling as minister of music after retirement. He was a member of the School of Theology Stewardship Commission of International Church of God and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for faithful support of men and women training for the ministry.
Mr. Ringo was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister, Mary Ellen Mitchell.
Survivors include his daughter Nelda Kay Smith and husband Jerry, son David Ringo and wife Shirley of Amarillo, a special nephew Steve Campbell and wife Sandra, and three sisters Phyllis Kitchens of Pampa, Evelyn Roberson and husband Ted of Lubbock, Ruth Ann Jackson of Cleveland, TN, brotherinlaw Delbert Mitchell of Salado,TX, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen greatgrandchildren two greatgreat grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the local Gideon Camp
