Sid was born on December 5,1924 in Hamilton, Texas to David Ray Mae Alexander Brandon. Sid attended Albany High School and joined the US Navy after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He participated in the invasion of Normandy, Luzon, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. Sid was decorated for bravery during his service in the Pacific. He was a 32 Degree Scottish Rite, member of the Unity Lodge of Borger and Khiva Shrine Temple of Amarillo.
On July 24,1945 he married his highschool sweetheart, Bettie June Rich in Orange, Texas. They lived in the BorgerFritch area for 60 years before moving to Amarillo 6 years ago. Sid and Bettie enjoyed squaredancing for many years. Sid was Betties primary care giver during her 13 year battle with alzheimers disease. Bettie passed away in January of 2010.
Sid coached little league baseball in Borger for many years. His red and white El Camino was a welcome site to many boys heading to practice or a game as he would haul as many boys as the bed would hold regardless of which team they played on. Sid retired from the J M Huber Corporation in 1986 after 34 years of service
Sid was pretty much a selftaught engineer and mechanic. He kept many family and friends vehicles and other equipment running over the years and was always willing to help anyone in need. He had a keen sense of humor, and will truly be missed by all that knew him.
Survivors include sons, Thomas R. of Dumas and Robert S. of Fritch his beloved granddaughter, Jennifer Newby and his adored greatgranddaughters Destiny Emily of Amarillo three sistersinlaw, Bonnie Smith of Abilene, Leda Wagoner of Ft. Worth, and Shirley Vancil of Richardson: a brotherinlaw, Kenneth Rich of Little Elm, and a special cousin Rodney Price of Abilene.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Staff Caregivers of Canyonview Estates and Childers Place for the many acts of love and kindness extended to our beloved Sid over the last six plus years.
The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
