Fourth Generation Rancher, Stephen Surratt, Dies
Stephen “Sambo” Surratt, died Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the Kansas ranch. Memorial services will be Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist church in Panhandle following interment at 9:30a.m. at the Panhandle Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Jerry Lane and Rev. Kirk Watson will officiate under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.
He attended Panhandle Schools and received his degree from Angelo State University in San Angelo. Stephen spent his life working on the ranch, raising cattle and farming. He was gifted in mechanical work, enjoyed fishing, cooking and being with people. One of his greatest joys was as a sophomore, when he won Grand Champion with his cross breed hog.
Survivors include his mother, Dixie Surratt, brother, Carrol Surratt and wife, Rhonda of Panhandle, Charles Surratt of Panhandle and Wallace, Kansas, sister Rosemary Koetting and husband, Chris, niece Lauren Koetting, nephews, Bill and Jack of Canadian, niece, Christy Little and husband, Buddy, great nephews Kayden and Carson of Denver City, nephew, Aaron Brummer and wife, Kristie of Canyon, aunts, Jane Klett of Amarillo, Mary Kate Rittmann of Orinda, California, Alice and husband, Robbin of Panhandle, several cousins and many friends in Panhandle and Kansas.
The family requests memorials the the First Methodist church, Box 549, Panhandle, TX 79068, Carson County Square House Museum, P.O. Box 276, Panhandle, TX 79068 or Garrison Center, P.O. Box 1239, Panhandle, TX 79068 or your favorite charity.
At the request of the family masks must be worn at the visitation and services.
