Steven Shumate

Steven Barry Shumate, 58, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021.

Graveside services will be held 2 pm on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Panhandle Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Monday, January 25, 2021 at Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.  In lieu of flowers his memory may be honored with a gift to First Baptist Church of Panhandle, PO Box 189, Panhandle, Texas 79068.

Steven was born February 12, 1962 in Pampa, Texas to Billy Ray Shumate and Belva Sue Hayes Shumate.  He retired from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as a Sr. Hydrologist.  Steven enjoyed photography, wood working, collecting rocks, target shooting, hunting, cars and driving fast.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Belva Shumate; and brother-in-law, Jeff Dimick.

Survivors include his son, Austin Shumate of West Jordan, Utah; daughter, Stephanie Shumate and Preston Peterson of West Jordan, Utah; their mother, Karen Shumate of West Jordan, Utah;  and sister, Shela Stafford and husband Bud of Amarillo.
