Tommie Lou Parkhurst, 62, of Borger was born April 9, 1949 in Mena, Arkansas. She went to heaven to join the loved ones who passed before her on December 31, 2011 in Amarillo, Texas.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Leonard Forsythe officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Park Cemetary. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Tommie married David Parkhurst on May 18, 1969. They raised their family in Borger. For many years, she served Borger residents with her winning dimpled smile at SafewayHomeland. After receiving her Bachelors of Science from West Texas AM University in 1996, Tommie worked as administrator of the Borger Christian Academy for several years followed by teaching the sixth grade at Spring Creek Elementary. In addition, she wrote the weekly column, Americanism, for the Borger News Herald.
Tommie loved reading and writing poetry. She was compassionate in stressing the importance of education to her students. Above all, Tommie loved spending time with her family and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include a son Damon Parkhurst and wife Danyel of Vega a daughter Devonna Ridling and husband Shane of Borger grandchildren Whitnee Benavidez and husband J.W. of Borger, Sydnee and Ashli Parkhurst of Amarillo, and Alexiss, Taylore, and Tallon Ridling of Borger greatgrandson Logan Benevidez sisters Sue Yohn, Margaret Graham, and Kathy Armstrong all of Borger brothers John and Clyde Ferguson of Pampa and Neil Ferguson of Borger and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tommie was preceded in death by her beloved husband David Parkhurst, father Clyde Ferguson, mother Ozie Ferguson, brother Stonie Ferguson, and sisters Terry Helen Ferguson and JoAnn Durham.
Family will be at 939 Harrington St.
