At age 92, Ray went to be with the Lord and his wife, Ruby Ellen Kitchens Stanton on March 2, 2011. He was born in Waxahachie, TX on January 1, 1919 to James Oscar Jo and Plummer Stewart Stanton.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Fellowsihp Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Sizemore, pastor officiating. Interment will be in The Garden of Love at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of MintonChatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Ray was preceded in death by four brothers, Leo, Luke, Arthur and Osie, and three sisters, Francis Grady, Willie Edmond and Maudie Lee Glosson.
Ray and Ruby Ellen Kitchens were married on November 19, 1939 by Rev. Alfred Brain of First Baptist Church in Levelland, TX. They were married for 70 years. Ruby went to be with the Lord on October 28, 2009.
Ray was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps in December, 1942 and served in the Philippine Islands until November, 1945. After approximately 40 years, Ray retired from Phillips Petroleum Company and was a Mason for over 50 years.
He enjoyed traveling, calling his grandchildren and joking around, and talking about the old days with family and friends. He and his life stories will truly be missed by his family.
He is survived by his son, Larry Ray Stanton of Locust Grove, OK, daughter, Verna Mae Smith of McKinney, TX, four grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren and one sister, Bobbie Sue Leatherman.
