William Smith

William Abel Willie Smith, 87, died at his home Monday, July 16. Memorial services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Johnny Robertson, Pastor officiating. Cremation was under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Willie was born in Greeley, Colorado and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Technician 5th Grade he served in the European Theatre. He married LaNell Hartfield in 1944 in Lasalle, Colorado and then graduated from Texas Tech University with a BS in Industrial Engineering. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 29 years before retiring in 1987. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Yellowhouse Lodge 841 AM FM in Lubbock.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years LaNell, his sons Mark E. Smith and wife Irma of Denver, Colorado and Brett Smith of Murietta, Colorado, his daughter Lynne Wyatt and husband Joe of Borger and his 5 grandchildren Derek, Caleb, Anna, Rebecca and Luke Wyatt and his 2 GreatGrandchildren.
